Tartan, checks and plaids !  A regular visitor to the workshop recently commented that every time he visited I seemed to be working on something tartan...he wasn't far wrong. A small selection of some of the tartan clad furniture that has passed through the workshop in recent years...Och aye the Noo !!

Over the Moon !

This Sofa bed and wing chair have been completely transformed after being re-upholstered in this beautiful wool fabric from Abraham Moon. Working with stripes or checks is always a challenge to the upholsterer as they try to keep the pattern straight and lined up....not an easy task when the furniture itself is curved and rounded ! An enjoyable job made even more satisfying by the delight and response of the customer.

'Hi Raymond
I cannot thank you enough for the fabulous job you have made of the sofa chairs and seat pads. The level of workmanship is outstanding.
Many many thanks'

Come Dine with Me !

Amongst other jobs this week has seen a couple of sets of dining chairs pass through the workshop.  The first set are G-Plan and were completely re-upholstered with new foams and Pimlico Crush fabric from Ross Fabrics. The second set were originally covered in a faux leather which had began to peel and look a bit the worse for wear...now recovered in a good quality contract rated black vinyl.

Parker Knoll reclining sofa re-upholstered in Lewis check fabric. A technical and challenging job which involved plenty of head-scratching trying to ensure the pattern lined up as much as possible....despite all the curved shapes.

Timorous Wee Beasties

Wee, sleekit, cow'rin, tim'rous beastie,  Not a moose in sight but plenty of other wildlife on this wee sofa. Delighted to get the opportunity to work with this fabric from Timorous Beasties. With a pattern repeat of over 180cm it was a challenge to get all the right bits in all the right places....i think we managed to get all the butterflies to feature somewhere !  The sofa itself was stripped back to the bare frame and built back up again using predominantly traditional materials and methods before being upholstered in this colourful and vibrant fabric. Plenty job satisfaction on this project.

Wade Camilla 4 piece suite.

This Wade suite was starting to look just a little bit dated after almost 30 years in its original fabric. Re-upholstered in luxurious Voyage Vellamo velvet brings it right up to date with a more modern appearance. A labour intensive job which required the outside panels and pelmet to be hand sewn....definitly worth the effort though.

Natuzzi Corner Sofa

Earlier this year we re-upholstered this large Natuzzi Corner Sofa in a modern easycare velvet. Many hours were spent painstakingly removing and then marking the original covers with 'reference' points, then all the seams were carefully unpicked to provide a template for the new covers. Literally hundreds of fabric components were then marked out, cut and sewn. At all times care had to be taken to ensure the pile of the fabric was all running in the same direction. Finally the covers were re-filled and fitted back onto the frames. A labour intensive and challenging job but very worthwhile for the finished result.

This set of 6 modern dining chairs were originally done in a distressed leather. The customer wanted a change in appearance and texture so opted to have them re-upholstered in this modern hard-wearing and practical velvet fabric.

'Ligne Roset' sofa reupholstered in hard-wearing and easy care 'Crush Moss' fabric from Kirkby Design which was done in our Lhanbryde workshop last year....a very heavy sofa which had us flexing our muscles on collection and delivery.
