This little Iron back antique chair really which we did last year really did end up being a labour of love. On first inspection it seemed that the original upholstery was in good order and could be refreshed with some new padding and re-covered. Alas as the original cover was removed it became clear that the underlying upholstery was disintegrating and completely unusable. The chair was therefore brought back to its bare frame and rebuilt using traditional methods. The back of these chairs were made completely of metal and as such all hessians, fillings and covers have to be stitched on by hand...very labour intensive and time-consuming but very much worth it. In the upholstery trade you win some and you lose some.....this one was a 'win' for the satisfaction alone of giving this wee chair a new lease of life and perhaps another 100 years. Time well spent !

It’s wonderful to see such dedication to restoring antique furniture.
